Branimir Glavaš


Branimir Glavaš (born September 23, 1956) is a Croatian right-wing politician from Osijek and has rank of Major General of the Croatian Army. He was one of the crucial Croatian officers in charge of the defence of Osijek during the Croatian war of independence. After the war he had an important rule in his party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). Due to a disagreement with Ivo Sanader in May 2006, Glavaš left HDZ and founded a new party – the Croatian Democratic Assembly of Slavonija and Baranja. In 2009, he was found guilty of torture and murder of Serb civilians in Osijek during the war, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Glavaš fled to neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he remained free because of his dual citizenship. In 2010, the Supreme Court confirmed his conviction and commuted his sentence to 8 years in prison......CONTINUED
