Croatia's former prime minister has denied accepting bribes from a Hungarian oil company as his corruption trial resumed in Zagreb. Sanader already stands accused of receiving bribes from an Austrian bank.

Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader pleaded not guilty to further corruption charges on Thursday as his trial continued in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

Sanader said he denied "categorically and with indignation" accepting a bribe worth 10 million euros ($13.63 million) from the Hungarian oil company MOL. The latest charges were added to an existing corruption case against the 58-year-old which began last week....more...

Police have arrested Svetlana Vukajlovic, former director general of the Republic Institute for Health Insurance (RZZO), and two other persons on suspicion of abusing their official positions.

Croatian ex-Premier Ivo Sanader charged with corruption

The authorities in Croatia have charged former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader with corruption over a loan he negotiated in 1995.

He is alleged to have received a kickback worth nearly $695,000 (£425,000; 480,000 euros) for the loan from the Austrian bank Hypo.

He is said to have facilitated Hypo's entry into the Croatian market....more...

Austria Clears Way for Sanader Extradition

Austrian Minister of Justice Beatrix Karl has signed the extradition papers for ex-Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, completing the paperwork for his return to Croatia.

Croatian leader to be extradited from Austria on corruption charges

An Austrian court approved measures to extradite Ivo Sanader, the former Croatian prime minister, back to his home country to face corruption charges.

Sanader was arrested while driving on an Austrian highway on December 10, a day after the Croatian parliament lifted his immunity from prosecution. In May, an Austrian court ruled Sanader could be extradited to Croatia.

Former director of ‘Serbia Railways’ Milanko Sarancic has been released on bail worth EUR 710,000. Thus he shall defend himself from freedom in a court trial in which he has been charged to have caused damage to ‘Serbia Railways’ of 1.2 million Dinars. The origin of the money paid for the bail is not known! He spent four years at ‘Serbia Railways’ and his salary was from 140,000 to 200,000 Dinars. The prosecution has not investigated origin of any of the so far paid bails....more...
