After that conference, Mr Davutoğlu was harshly criticized by detractors for his alleged neo-Ottomanism in relation to the Balkans....more....

UN envoy Inzko calls planned Bosnian Serb referendum a 'catastrophe'

Bosnia is divided between former wartime adversaries living in two autonomous regions - a separatist Serb Republic and a Muslim-Croat federation.
It is still without a government seven months after the last elections, and political leaders in the Serb Republic continue to advocate dissolving the country. In the latest challenge to central authority in Bosnia, the regional Serb parliament has backed plans for a referendum in June on the legality of Bosnia's national court, which prosecutes war crimes suspects.
The international High Representative for the Balkan state, Valentin Inzko, regards the planned vote as a blatant attack on the Dayton Peace Agreement and has threatened to cancel the referendum. Deutsche Welle's Christina Bergmann met Inzko in Washington. ....more...

High Representative Says Bosnia Facing Worst Crisis Since Dayton Accords
radio free europe
Last updated (GMT/UTC): 10.05.2011 08:00
By Nikola Krastev
UNITED NATIONS -- In a scathing report presented to the UN's highest executive organ, the international community's high representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina painted a bleak picture of a country that 16 years after the end of a devastating war is again finding itself on the brink of collapse.
Valentin Inzko told the 15-member Security Council that Bosnia has experienced months of paralysis in its state institutions. What's more, he said, there is no prospect for forming a new government and the economy is on a downward spiral.
"More than seven months after the general elections, there is still no prospect of a new state government being formed and many state institutions are under serious political, institutional, and economic pressure with a clear impact on their efficiency and functionality," he said. "The European Union and the Euro-Atlantic integration processes have come to a complete halt and the economy continues to suffer."

BELGRADE - ‘There is no chance that the UN Security Council enforces sanctions against the Republic of Srpska and its President Milorad Dodik. May 09, 2011
NEW YORK -- The secessionist tendencies of the leadership of Republika Srpska, one of Bosnia-Herzegovina's two entities, are destabilizing the overall situation in the country and paralyzing the functioning of its state institutions.
That's according to the international community's high representative for Bosnia, Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko, who's due to present his fifth report to the UN Security Council on May 9.
The recent decision by the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, to call a referendum on the competencies of Bosnia's judicial institutions has been criticized by the European Union and prompted Inzko to demand the referendum be scrapped.
