Macedonian Mother Sues State Over Son's Death

What is a police state? A place where the friendly neighborhood bobby has been replaced by a pack of crew cut grim faced muscle men with police badges? If this is so, then Macedonia most certainly resembles one!

Sunday’s killing of 22-year-old Martin Neskovski in Skopje, apparently committed by a policeman on duty, came as a shock to many Macedonians. After Serbia's farmers blocked the roads in Vojvodina for a week, the government agreed to their demands and reversed a decision to suspend agricultural subsidies for land parcels bigger than 10 hectares. On June 5th, Belgrade announced the deal and the blockade cleared.

Several thousands of farmers in the northern province of Vojvodina are sleeping in tractors parked on highways and roads for the third night in a row.

During unrest in Belgrade on Sunday evening the police have arrested 179 people, 48 of them underage. During protests on the occasion of the arrest of Ratko Mladic 11 citizens and 32 policemen were injured.
Five official vehicles and six buildings were damaged. As ‘Blic’ learns among the arrested people there are football fans of the ‘Rad’, ‘Red Star’ and ‘Partizan’ football clubs. However, majority of them are members of the extreme organizations ‘Obraz’ and ‘Nasi 1389’.
