Israeli Architect Warns Albania against Damaging Heritage

An ongoing road development project in southern Albania could threaten archaeological heritage sites, a member of the International Council of Monuments and Sites, ICMS, has warned.

Albania opposition ends boycott of parliament

New Ministers Nominated in Albania

Albania Backs Libya’s Rebel Government

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that Albania formally recognizes Libya’s main opposition group as the country’s legitimate government.

TIRANA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Albanian lawmakers voted on Thursday to pull down an old building that served as the country's late leader Enver Hoxha's memorial to build a new parliamentary building in its place.
In the country's 140-seat parliament, 72 lawmakers out of 74 present gave the go-head for the new building. The opposition party, which is still boycotting the parliament after a disputed local election, did not take part in the vote....more....

Albanian Tourism Continues to Boom

The number of foreign tourists and nonresidents visiting Albania increased in the first five months of 2011.

Someone from enlargement commissioner Stefan Fuele's close entourage remarked that if he had gone to Tirana the next day as planned he would have yelled at Prime Minister Sali Berisha: "Enough - you have to retreat!"
It was 21 January 2011 and the republican guard had just shot dead on live TV four unarmed protesters in an anti-government and anti-corruption rally in the capital city of Albania....more...
