Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was expected to attend a meeting of the Democratic Pakistan’s Friends Group in Brussels on Friday, an initiative pioneered by Turkey following Pakistan’s 2008 elections.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the European Union’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
The Democratic Pakistan’s Friends Group is a collection of over 20 countries and organizations aiming for a systematic solution to Pakistan’s economic problems. The group focuses on helping Pakistan access necessary funds and develop concrete strategies.
The meeting in Brussels comes as Pakistan is trying to heal the wounds of deadly floods that claimed many lives. A Foreign Ministry statement revealed that Turkey has taken initiative to help Pakistani flood victims since the very first day after the floods.
The Brussels meeting will seek to find opportunities for reconstruction, coordination and reform in Pakistan.
