Over the coming seven days, more than 800 publishers from nineteen countries will present their publications to a Belgrade audience.

This year, visitors will have the opportunity to see new titles from Greece, Japan, Russia, Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Brazil, Iran, Angola, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and for the first time from Slovakia and the Netherlands.

The Fair will also host prominent writers from Ukraine, Great Britain, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia and about 30 authors from Sweden, which is the guest of honour at this year’s Book Fair.

“Half of the Swedish authors and illustrators who came to Belgrade write books for children and youth. Children's literature will have a conspicuous place at the Swedish stand. I like that - I hope will you will too," Osa Lind said.

The Sweden embassy in Belgrade announced that they have prepared about sixty events for visitors, including the promotion of books, debates, lectures and discussions with writers.

Belgrade Book Fair will also feature numerous forums, presentations and panels. In the ‘chat rooms’, a programme that was introduced last year, visitors will have the opportunity to speak with celebrated writers from the region and, for the first time this year, with rockers and bloggers.

Marking a century since the first Serbian comics were published, organisers prepared several events dedicated to this medium. Some of the most popular Serbian authors will show how comics are made and visitors will be free to join and draw with them.

Also for the first time, organisers have prepared a marathon of short stories, and an urban poetry marathon dedicated to the great Serbian poet Laza Kostic.

Prizes will be awarded to the best publisher, best publishing enterprise and best children’s book. The “Dositej Obradovic” award will be presented to the best foreign publisher who has continuously contributed to the publication and presentation of Serbian literature.

On the last day of the Fair, the Swedish ambassador will present the Open Book to a representative of Portuguese-speaking countries – Portugal, Brazil and Angola, who will be the guests of honour at next year's Book Fair.
