Croatia's EU bid facing delays thanks to Britain and France

Croatia is on track to join the EU in two years but Britain is pressing for financial penalties or delays if Zagreb fails to show its willingness to tackle war crimes or corruption.

Europe ministers will discuss Croatia’s prospects over dinner tonight in Brussels and are expected to recommend giving the Balkans country the “indicative” membership date of 1 July 2013 at an EU summit next month.
But Croatia, with the support of Austria, Hungary and Germany, faces a fight as sceptical countries, led by Britain, France and the Netherlands, seek to impose the toughest ever “accession” conditions on Zagreb. ...more....
