Voters in Macedonia have cast ballots after an election campaign overshadowed by allegations of intimidation and riot plans. Western powers warned that EU and NATO membership are contingent upon clean elections.

After a contentious election campaign, Macedonians on Sunday went to the polls in parliamentary elections that could be an important test in the country's bid to join the European Union and NATO.
