(Reuters) - Kurdish PKK separatists Monday denied responsibility for a bombing in central Istanbul that wounded 32 people Sunday, the guerrilla group said in a statement posted on a pro-PKK news agency.
Turkish officials had said the PKK, branded a terrorist organisation by Washington, the European Union and Ankara, was emerging as the most likely suspect for the bombing in Taksim square. Istanbul has been targeted in the past by Kurdish separatists, al Qaeda and militants from Turkey's far-left.
In the statement, the PKK also said it was extending a month-old cease-fire that expired Sunday until Turkey's next general elections, which are due to take place in June 2011.
