Extremist Imam warns Serbia on security

October 31, 2010 – 9:56 am
Muslim Imam Muamar Zukorlic has warned Serbia, and Montenegro, that their stability and security depends on whether Serbia caves in and grants autonomy to an Islamist enclave in southeastern Serbia.
In an interview for Al Jazeera, Imam Zukorlic, seen in the photo talking to AJ reporter, warned that the security in Serbia and Montenegro depends on whether Serbia re-carves the region into a single, Muslim-dominated “autonomous” region they call Sandzak. Autonomy, said the Imam, is the prerequisite for stability of these 2 states.
Imam Zukorlic demands that areas where Muslims live get territorially reconstituted into Muslim dominated unit, which they call Sandzak, and that such unit, which includes territory in Montenegro, be reconstituted along the Islamic wishes.
Zukorlic accused Muslim politicians that are in Serbia’s Parliament and those in the ruling coalition as illegitimate representatives of Muslims in Serbia.
“They have shown that they are not representatives of Muslims in the government but representatives of the government among Muslims,” Zukorlic told Al Jazeera.
Extremist Muslims, including Osama bin Laden, use Al Jazeera to broadcast their political demands and Zukorlic told the worldwide Islamic audience that Serbia functions best if Serbia is put under pressure irrespective as to where does the pressure come from.
“It is unimportant from where does the pressure on Belgrade come from, it is important that it is strong,” Imam told the worldwide Islamists via Al Jazeera.
“Whenever we tried to solve the issues in peaceful ways and through the institutions we encounter obstruction,” Imam told worldwide Islam.
Bosnian Muslim chief Imam, Mustafa Ceric, seen on the left in the meeting of the World Forum of Ulema known as the RABITA, urged Imams to pressure Serbia and “to speak out against the violation of the rights of Muslims in Bosnia and the Sandzak”.
Policy decisions by RABITA are a general proxy for the collective action by the Islamic states in the world and is often a trigger for violent terrorist activities, primarily against European targets.
Sources have told me that Zukorlic used to pride himself at the access and support he received from the US Embassy in Serbia.
Zukorlic accused Serbia of violating human rights saying that in recent years Belgrade declared respect for human rights, democracy and that it seeks European integration, but, according to the Imam, all of that is “only affront of a political gesture”.
The Imam said that he does not want to talk to Serbia and predicted that problems will be enlarged.
