Turkey, Egypt agree to establish High Level Strategic Cooperation Council

ANKARA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Monday that Turkey and Egypt have agreed to establish the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
More systematic and comprehensive era will begin between Turkey and Egypt with the establishment of this strategic cooperation council, Davutoglu said at a joint press conference with visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
An agreement on the establishment of the council will be signed during Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Egypt, he said.
Egypt is one of the most important stability factors in the region, Davutoglu said, adding that Turkey and Egypt are two important actors in the region.
The two countries are determined to boost trade volume which is currently at nearly 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, he said.
The two foreign ministers have also discussed several issues including Turkey's Africa initiative, he said, adding that the two countries are eager to continue their joint efforts under the United Nations.
For his part, Gheit said that he would also meet with President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The two countries have enjoyed sound ties and cooperation and bilateral relations will be improved after the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council is established, Gheit said.
