Serbia’s Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said that chances of Albanian violence in Kosovo are minimal despite the possibility that the individuals implicated in organ trade, named in the Council of Europe report, may seek to derail stability.
“If an investigation gets initiated because of the Dick Marty’s report, we can expect that in some way those that are named rebel. I believe that the international community and all institutions in Kosovo and Metohia care about that and can secure stability,” said Sutanovac.
Relations between Switzerland and the Kosovo Albanian separatists led by the named organ trading mastermind, Hashim Thaci, have deteriorated after Swiss officials dismissed Thaci’s statements claiming that the Marty report is Nazi-style persecution.
Swiss Greens, Peoples party and Lib have both expressed criticism of Thaci’ statement.
Thaci has said that because the report presents facts that he led organ trading, the report may prevent dialogue with Belgrade.
“It is important that dialogue begins in the shortest possible time so we can find solutions for the basic human needs for people who live in Kosovo, so that later we can move to overcome the general and larger problems,” said Sutanovac.
Sutanovac said that Marty’s report signals that the time has come for the Kosovo Albanian separatist gunmen to stand justice for war crimes.
“The dialogue must open the question as to why those named have not been prosecuted whose videos and photos prove their war crimes,” said Sutanovac.
Sutanovac believes that a thorough investigation of Thaci’s organ trading business must be conducted.
Sutanovac also said that Serbia’s recent decision to make military service voluntary does not negatively affect the military system and that Serbia’s military reform has attracted interest from countries like Russia, Germany and Austria.
The Defense Minister also said that the military is open to NATO membership.
